Appearance & origins
Mullein is a tall, upright biennial plant with soft, velvety leaves that are pale green to grayish in color. Its leaves grow in a rosette pattern during the first year, and in the second year, a tall flowering stalk emerges, reaching up to 6 feet in height. The flowers are small, bright yellow, and grow densely along the upper portion of the stalk.
Mullein is native to Europe, North Africa, and Asia, but it has naturalized widely in North America. It thrives in sunny, open environments such as meadows, roadsides, and disturbed soils.
