Appearance & origins
Motherwort is a tall, perennial herb with square stems, reaching heights of 2 to 5 feet. Its leaves are deeply lobed, with a slightly hairy texture, and are dark green on the upper surface and lighter underneath. The plant produces small, pale pink to purple, tubular flowers that grow in clusters around the stem in a whorled pattern.
Native to Europe and Asia, Motherwort is commonly found in temperate regions. It thrives in waste areas, roadsides, and open meadows but can also adapt to gardens if conditions are favorable.
