Appearance & origins
Malachite is a vibrant green crystal with swirling, banded patterns ranging from deep forest green to lighter, almost minty tones. It has a smooth, polished surface when tumbled, but in its raw form, it can appear fibrous or botryoidal with a velvety texture. Its unique concentric rings and wave-like designs make it highly recognizable and visually striking.
Malachite is commonly mined in regions rich in copper deposits, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Russia, Australia, and parts of the United States such as Arizona. Historically, it was also sourced in ancient Egypt and the Ural Mountains.

Malachite was used as a pigment for green paint in ancient art and as a protective adornment. Egyptian royalty wore Malachite jewelry to invoke the favor of Hathor, the goddess of beauty and love.
