Appearance & origins

Nettle is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows to heights of 2–4 feet. It has heart-shaped, serrated green leaves and tiny, inconspicuous greenish flowers. The stems and undersides of the leaves are covered in fine, stinging hairs that release irritants upon contact.

Nettle is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa but has since spread globally. It thrives in nutrient-rich soils, often found in forests, meadows, and alongside rivers or roadsides.

Safety

Warnings: Fresh nettle can cause temporary skin irritation or rashes when handled without protection. Cooking or drying the herb neutralizes its stinging properties.

Storage: Store dried nettle in an airtight container away from direct sunlight and moisture. Use within one year for maximum potency.
