Appearance & origins

Horehound is a hardy perennial herbaceous plant with a bushy growth habit. It has square stems typical of the mint family, covered in fine white hairs, giving the plant a silvery-gray appearance. Its leaves are wrinkled, oval, and toothed along the edges, with a velvety texture. The plant produces clusters of small, white, tubular flowers at the top of its stems during the summer.

Horehound is native to Europe, Northern Africa, and parts of Asia. It has since naturalized in North America and Australia, often found in dry, sunny areas such as fields, roadsides, and disturbed soils.
